  • Have a list of goals, business cards and marketing materials for each meeting.
  • Wear a name badge. Dress appropriately.
  • Introduce yourself and what your business does clearly and concisely.
  • Use common conversation generators to engage others, for example, "How did you get involved in UABA?"
  • Re-introduce yourself instead of waiting for others to remember your name. Focus when people are introduced so you can remember them and their names.
  • Make notations on the back of business cards you receive to jog your memory later.
  • Acknowledge others for their assistance. Call or send thank you notes or a gift for referrals (or other helpful gestures).
  • Become comfortable promoting yourself and your business.
  • Follow up promptly on leads you receive. Return all telephone calls within 24 hours.
  • Provide quality referrals for others when possible. Practice asking "Who do you know who...?"
